Earth Day

Monday was Earth Day, so to celebrate we went to the Racine Zoo with a friend and her twin daughters. On the way there we listened to the song 'Let it Grow' from the movie The Lorax and talked about the importance of the earth and what all it gives to us. The kids have been repeating these little bits of knowledge over and over again the past few days. I love it! Now on to pictures!

Wallaroos!

After seeing all of the animals that were out, we went to Cherry Berry for a treat. Yummy! We then went home, cuddled up on the couch and watched The Lorax. It was a great day!

Kite flying

We had really looked forward to a nice, sunny weekend and that's pretty much what we got.

Saturday morning we decided to check out a little cafe for breakfast, Country Rose Cafe and Bakery. It was such a cute little place, kind of out in the country with such nice people. We went straight to a corner booth because with our kids that's the best place to be! Tim showed the boys how to blow the paper off of straws, so both Kallen and Isaiah aimed at Kenzie and I (we were up against the wall). Kenzie wanted to try, so we told her that she had to hit her brothers so it didn't go to the table behind them. Sure enough, it went flying right at a lady at that table. Kenzie was so embarrassed! She hid behind me right away. I apologized, but the lady and the 3 other people in her group were laughing and said it was no big deal, that they do it had home all the time. Kenzie kind of hid for awhile and then she confessed that she was also sad that she didn't hit Isaiah in the face like he did to her. After a bit, the group at the other table got up to leave. A few minutes later the one lady came to our table and handed Kenzie a cute little Easter bunny stuffed animal. She told all 3 of the kids that she was impressed with how well-behaved they were and that they were awfully cute. Proud mama moment right there.

The rest of our day was pretty busy. We went to the Just Add Kids Expo at Case High School. There were so many vendors from businesses that are aimed towards kids (Monkey Joe's, an indoor bounce house; Action Territory; a place with bumper cars, laser tag, etc and many more), groups with fun activities, etc. There were games for the kids, face painting and lots of treats. Afterwards we went to a Hobby Shop that Tim wanted to check out. The kids were fascinated by all of the RC airplanes, helicopters, cars and the rockets.

Before heading home, we decided to stop by Cherry Berry for a treat (for those who don't know... amazing frozen yogurt that I was introduced to by my brother's amazing girlfriend). I had gotten a call that I won something from there at the expo. Isaiah now has a new Cherry Berry shirt and we got a bunch of discount cards, which will be super nice for treats this summer.

Sunday morning we headed out to Bong State Recreation Park for some kite flying. The kids have been so excited to go and we finally had a nice enough day to do it. We found an open ball field to play on. The sun may have been out, but it was still chilly. We're still getting used to the wind down here. I hate wind! We flew kites for an hour, took a snack break, the boys tried sneaking up on some geese and then we flew kites for another hour. I think Tim and I had as much fun flying the kites as the kids did!

Last night we finally pulled out the grill. Man, we've missed that thing! We had steaks (a rare treat as we don't really eat beef anymore) and brats. I'd say it was a pretty great weekend!

Easter Weekend

Forewarning: This post may end up being quite long.

Friday morning we got up early, finished packing and got on the road heading to my parents' around 8 am. I think were all excited to have another weekend with family. It was a really nice drive and the kids were great. Kallen was in underwear the whole time with no accidents (yes, we did have to stop for a few potty breaks), but we were pretty excited about it! When we got to my parents', we found my dad in the garage working on some wooden toys for the kids... it was so great seeing him back doing his woodwork. It's certainly been awhile since he's felt up to doing it. The kids enjoyed some alone time with him while Tim and I went shopping.

Saturday morning we visited with Tim's parents for awhile and then headed to the Mindoro Easter egg hunt. The kids were so excited for it and Tim and I were certainly looking forward to seeing some friends we haven't seen in awhile. It was pretty chilly out and wet, but the kids still had a lot of fun getting eggs. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get many pictures.

Tim visiting with a good friend, Doug, and the kids waiting in line to put their tickets in the prize buckets.

That afternoon, the kids decorated a bunny cake that Nana had made while we were gone and then we had fun dyeing Easter eggs.

They certainly had fun decorating him...

Saturday evening Grandma Anderson (my dad's mom) and Ore, a good friend of hers, came over for dinner. Kallen can be pretty shy around some people, which is so weird because he's normally so loud and outgoing, but he crawled right up in his Great-Grandma's lap...

and fell asleep pretty quickly!

After dinner, Tim, Wyatt (bro), Liz (Wyatt's girlfriend) and I played some Rummy 500. We love playing this game. Grandma even joined us for a few hands!

Here we were hoping that we'd get to sleep in a bit on Sunday morning since we all went to bed pretty late. We should have known better... Isaiah and Kenzie were up before 6:00 am ready to see what the Easter bunny brought. We had to wake Kallen up, but as soon as he heard 'Easter bunny', he was wide awake!

Kallen was sooooo excited about his triceratops night light!

Kenzie couldn't believe that the Easter bunny would hide an egg in the sugar jar

Isaiah didn't mind having to crawl up on the table to get an egg off the light

Yes, Kenzie got pretty pink fingernails that morning :)

Isaiah finally found his Easter basket outside!

Sunday afternoon was spent with the kids playing and hanging out with Papa in his cozy chair

This hat has been around for YEARS and is always being worn by someone, usually the kids, when we're around. I guess it was Papa's turn to wear it!

The adults played some cards and the kids had fun blowing bubbles outside, even though it was pretty chilly out. They would go out for awhile, come back and warm up, then head back out again and so on. Kenzie had quite a bit of fun twirling in the midst of the bubbles.

We had an early Easter dinner with everyone and then we packed up and got on the road. We were sad to leave, but we know we'll be seeing family again in a couple of weeks. Overall, it was a GREAT family weekend! Being so far away really makes us enjoy our time with family so much more. <3

Week-Long Visit 'Up North'

For those that don't know, we have had a lot of changes in our life recently. My husband got a job in December at Case New Holland in Racine, which is 4 hours away from where we lived. After weighing the pros and cons (only very briefly because we had done this when he had the interview), we decided it was a move that would be worth it in the long run for our family. So in a matter of weeks we moved to a duplex in the country in Union Grove, about 20-30 minutes from Tim's work. Life since then has been a wee bit crazy and stressful, but things are finally starting to settle down a little.

We found out a couple of weeks ago that the closing on our house was scheduled for Tuesday, March 12th. We had already planned on coming up for the weekend, but Tim decided that with how much we've been missing family the kids and I should just spend the week at my parents'. We planned on coming up Monday evening, but Sunday morning we made a spur of the moment decision to leave sooner. We got packed in 45 minutes and the kids and I hit the road to surprise my family by showing up early. I think it was a very happy surprise for them. Yesterday was a big day for us... we closed on our house! It was a very emotional, bittersweet day (for me, Tim was just happy to have it done and over with). Tim drove up Monday night and left yesterday afternoon for home. We're already missing him! We are excited, though, to spend the rest of the week here. The kids love spending the day with their Papa and he loves all the cuddling he gets from them.

Welcome

Hi there and welcome to my blog! I decided to start this blog for a number of reasons but mostly to keep family up to date since our recent move. Here you will find the going-ons in our crazy, every day life. I will be posting lots of pictures because pictures are an amazing form of memories. Forewarning: I will always aim to be honest here. So many bloggers show just the 'nice' parts of their lives and their homes. I have no intention of doing that. This is life as is. It is our life and I love it.

How I wish things were every day

How things frequently are...

A lot of love, a little understanding and some goofiness makes everything alright. Like I said, this is our life and I love it.
